Graffiti Printmaking

Lino cut is a very basic printmaking process so I’m here to spice it up and get students excited to make prints! The process is the same but what makes this lesson unique is the theme of Graffiti tags.

I start by showing them two videos in regards to the theme. While they watch both videos, they are required to write 5 facts from each video. At the end of the video notes they were asked to write a response to the following question “Do you consider graffiti vandalism or art? Why?”

This is a very informative video and I highly encourage showing this to your students.
This video gets students thinking about how to convey meaning through font first and words second.

Here is the graffiti printmaking PowerPoint

On the second slide of the PowerPoint in blue, there is an alternative theme choice you could do with your students. I found that the graffiti takes more time to complete and the alternative theme doesn’t take as long ((learn from my mistakes haha))

My students who completed the graffiti theme produced better outcomes and were overall more motivated because it was something fun.

Here is the project process video

This video is embedded into the PowerPoint as well

Here is the brainstorming worksheet. On the front it has: clear objectives, every step listed and important vocab. On the back it has two spaces for brainstorming

Here are rubrics for the final product. They are the same rubric but I made it easily accessible for you to make copies and distribute them to your students

Student examples displayed on my door. They love seeing their stuff being shown off
